Q. How do I place a hold on a book / DVD?
There are two types of hold requests:
- If the item is available, requesting a hold will prompt library staff to retrieve the item from the stacks and place it on the Hold Shelf for you to pick up. You will receive an email when it is ready, and 7 days before the hold expires.
- If the item is checked out, requesting a hold will notify the current borrower that they must return the item within 21 days (books) or 7 days (DVDs). When this "recalled" item is returned, you will receive an email about your 7-day hold.
Note: Popular items may have a queue of requestors. Call 972-883-2953 or email email@example.com to check your place in the queue.
To submit a hold request:
Go to the Library's homepage at http://www.utdallas.edu/library. Click the Library Catalog tab, then search by title, author, or keyword.
Take note of the item's availability, then click either the location or title to expand to detailed view.
Sign in with your NetID.
The Request option should appear. Click, then complete the prompts.
Check your email for a confirmation and/or updates. Books on hold can be picked up at the Services Desk on the 2nd floor, and DVDs on hold will be found in the Multimedia Department, in Room 2.408.
