What is the Geological Information Library of Dallas (GILD), and how do I find it?

Answer

The Geological Information Library of Dallas (GILD) is a former holding of UT Dallas that contained published and unpublished information from over a thousand geologists, geophysicists, and engineers, and contained millions of oil sample and drilling logs, well completion cards, well histories, topographic maps, ownership maps, bound periodicals, books, reports, directories, manuals, and more.

In the 1990s, the collection changed hands from UT Dallas to a company called Geo-Marine, Inc. in Plano, TX. Then again to Applied Research Associates, Inc. in 2009, and finally to Versar, Inc. - Company phone: (703) 750-3000.

UT Austin's Walter Geology Library houses a very large repository of oil logs and other related items. Contact (512) 495-4680 for details.
