How do I find a company's Common Size Income Statement?

Answer

A company's Common Size Income Statement can be found in two of McDermott Library's databases: Mergent Online and Business Source Complete.

Here is an example using Mergent:

1) Go to the Library's homepage.

2) Find the green Databases tab in the main search area, then click the letter M.

3) Scroll on the next page until you find "Mergent Online (company financial information)" and click to enter the database.

4) Type the Company Name (or ticker symbol) that you would like to research in the Company Search field. It will populate suggestions as you type to help you choose the correct company.

5) Click Go. It may be necessary to click the company name in a table on the resulting page.

6) On the company's profile page, follow this navigation to obtain the Common Size Income Statement:

  1. Click the Company Financials tab from the row of tabs below the basic company information.
  2. Find "Standardized" among the options below the Financials tab and click.
  3. A sortable table appears with drop-down lists above it for you to choose statement type and reporting period. Change the second drop-down list from "Balance Sheet" to "Common Size - BS."
