Q. How does the library find missing books?
McDermott Library takes preventative measures to avoid loss of assets, such as daily "shelf reading" by area (making sure books are in order and the shelves are straightened) and even taking a full inventory on occasion.
Items that are reported missing will first receive a targeted search, and those that are not found will remain on a list of missing items and a search will continue for up to six months. At six months, a missing item would be declared "lost" and the library would then decide whether to replace it.
