An ORCID ID is a unique 16-digit identifier that helps to disambiguate researchers with similar names, and more accurately connect you to your work and your affiliations. It is free, permanent, and applied across an increasing number of platforms.

An increasing number journals and funding agencies are requiring ORCID IDs when publishing or applying for grants. A list of member organizations is available here.

Ease of use
It takes about a minute to create an account and obtain your own unique ORCID ID, or take an extra few to create a complete profile with your educational and employment background, funding, and publications.
