What do I do if I have lost or damaged a book or other library item?

Answer

If you suspect that you have lost an item you borrowed from the library, the first thing to do is check your home or vehicle and retrace your steps. Fortunately, books that were thought to have been lost are often found in couches and under seats after a careful second search!

If the item cannot be found - or if you have damaged an item - inform the Access Services department by emailing circ@utdallas.edu, calling (972) 883-2953, or visiting the Services Desk on the 2nd floor.

In addition to the cost of replacing the item, the borrower will be assessed a $25 processing fee in most cases as well as any applicable late fees. Damaged items will not be returned to patrons, and replacement copies will not be accepted.

For a detailed breakdown of fines and fees by item or service, see the Borrow, Renew & Return page.
