What is a Community User?

Answer

What is a Community User?

A Community User is a patron who is not affiliated with UT Dallas as current students, staff, or faculty.  These include visitors from our outside community and alumni.

Can I access electronic resources as a Community User?

You cannot access them remotely, but you can visit our library and use one of the three Community User workstations that are inside the glass doors to the right.  The Community User workstations are reserved for Library visitors who are not affiliated with UT Dallas as current students, staff or faculty.

These computers provide access to many of the Library's online databases, e-journals and eBooks. Please note that these machines are set up specifically for research purposes and do not have Microsoft Word or other common software.  You cannot print from the Community User workstations, so it is recommended to bring a flash drive for any articles or files you wish to keep.

Availability

The workstations are available anytime the Library is open, free of charge, for 2 hours at a time - more time is granted if no one is waiting. Building hours

To use these workstations, please visit the Access Services desk to apply for access and check out the password, using a valid government-issued photo ID. NOTE:  Visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
