Where can I go to borrow a computer (laptop)?

Answer

Laptops are available to current UTD students, staff, and faculty for a 14-day borrowing period. To borrow a laptop, go to the Services Desk (checkout desk) on the main floor of the library. Find details about terms of use and included software on our laptop policy page.

Important: Library laptops will restore to their original settings when rebooted or from logging out (clearing your data), so remember to save your work to a separate device or cloud storage such as OneDrive.

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) sponsors a laptop borrowing program (separate from the Library) for extended use, but availability can vary. Visit OIT's Student Computer Checkout Availability page for the borrowing requirements and request form. Note that these laptops are only available for qualifying students and faculty (no staff).

UPDATE (August 2025): Due to a lack of funding, OIT will no longer be able to provide laptops for loan. OIT will still have monitors, webcams, keyboards, and mice available for students and faculty. See the Equipment Checkout Availability form for more information and to request equipment.
