How do I search for books?

Answer

To search for a book, start at the Library's homepage: library.utdallas.edu.

Locate the "Library Catalog" search in the center of the page:

Here, you can enter the book title, author, or both. The search is sensitive to spelling, punctuation and words that are not in the title, so be precise!

Tip: If you are looking for a specific book, it is usually fastest to enter the title and the first author's last name as shown in this screenshot:

Click the search button. You are now viewing the online catalog. If the Library owns the book, it should be at or near the top of your results.

Check the gray text above the title to confirm that this is a book, instead of a book review, journal, etc.

If the result says "Available Online," this is an ebook. Click the title and find the link to view the ebook under the "View Online" section of the book record.

The search result with Available Onlne highlighted as described.

If the result includes a location instead, this book is a physical copy. Take note of the availability (found below the title and author details), then find the location (1) and the Call Number (2). This tells you where to find the book.

View the Map It button or visit our Services Desk for assistance with locations.

A record for a print copy is shown, with location and Call Number highlighted below the title and author details.
