How do I create a New York Times account?

Answer

In February of 2022, McDermott Library's access to the New York Times digital newspaper was enhanced to enable individual accounts for active UT Dallas students, faculty and staff.

After a quick registration, enjoy access from the main New York Times website or download their app to your mobile device.

Access includes:

  • U.S. and international news from the New York Times in real-time
  • Archival access dating back to 1851 in fully searchable scans
  • Book reviews, short stories, quizzes, and more
  • Added January 2024: Expanded content such as Games and Cooking

Creating your account

Off campus? We recommend connecting to UTD's VPN, GlobalProtect, before starting the process below.

1) Begin at the New York Times Academic Pass signup page.

Account creation page with Create Account button.

2) Click "Create Account," then enter your UTD email address, using the netID@utdallas.edu format. Click the Continue button.

If you encounter a problem here, try using a different internet browser.

3) Choose a password, then click the Log In button.

4) Finally, select your academic status and click the Sign Up button.

5) Account expiry information will be shown next. Click "Get Started" to begin using NYT or customizing your account.
