Where can I find psychometric tests?
Answer
What is a psychometric test?
A psychological test - or psychometric test - is "any standardized instrument, including scales and self-report inventories, used to measure behavior or mental attributes, such as attitudes, emotional functioning, intelligence and cognitive abilities (reasoning, comprehension, abstraction, etc.), aptitudes, values, interests, and personality characteristics."
American Psychological Association. (2022). Psychological test. APA dictionary of psychology. https://dictionary.apa.org/psychological-test
Where to find psychometric tests at UTD Libraries
There are two major databases that contain information about psychometric tests:
- APA PsycTests - Provides descriptive summaries, full text (if available), and relevant citations on the development and assessment of tests and measures. This repository includes unpublished tests, tests developed by psychologists for which no source documentation is available, and information about commercially published tests. Information on each test includes: data on the scope of the test, test implementation, a high-level overview of the test’s development, and reliability and validity data (when available). Scales, questionnaires and some other elements of tests can be found only by opening the PDF where available; manuals are not present in this source. Coverage begins in 1910 and the database is updated monthly.
- Mental Measurements Yearbook - Provides test descriptions within a diverse range of topics such as psychology, education, business, and leadership. Development and technical information like reliability and validity data are included. Test manuals and items like scales or surveys are not present in this source.
Please note that the Library's subscription to the APA PsycNet database only includes eBooks published by the American Psychological Association - no tests are included; use the resources described above.
A note for UTD Speech-Language Pathology students
Descriptions of tests related to speech-language pathology and linguistics can be found in these databases as well. UTD's Callier Library (Dallas campus) maintains an extensive collection of complete tests specific to communication disorders for UTD borrowers. Callier Library's Diagnostic Lab collection
