How do I download chapters or complete ebooks from EBSCO?

Answer

EBSCO and many other ebook platforms support downloading of complete ebooks or individual chapters. The process can vary depending on your choice of ebook and your device.

To download a chapter:

Access your ebook of choice and look on the left-hand side for an option that says 'PDF Full Text' or 'EPUB Full Text'. Upon selecting it, you will see the ebook in your browser and on the left-hand side, you should see a list of chapters available in the ebook. You can see an example below.

When you have located the desired chapter:

  1. Click the arrow icon next to the chapter title.
  2. In the pop-up box, select your desired option. Take note of any page limits the ebook may have.
  3. The downloaded file may now be viewed with any PDF viewer (e.g. Adobe Reader), and kept as long as you like.

Note: The default save location on most computers is the Downloads folder.

You can read these PDFs on your device of choice as long it can read PDFs. If you wish to read saved EBSCO ebook pages on your Kindle, please follow the instructions given in this link.

To download a book:

Note: You must register for an MyEBSCO account before downloading ebooks from EBSCO. To register, use the 'Sign In' link on the top toolbar. If you already have an account, log in before moving forward with the process.

  1. Upon accessing your chosen ebook in EBSCO, look for the 'Full Download' link and select it. You may be prompted to register or sign in at this point.

  2. In the pop up box, select your desired option. Depending on the ebook, an option may be unavailable.
  3. If the book is DRM-free, you will simply choose to download either a PDF (reading in Adobe or on a Kindle) or an EPUB file (for other e-readers) and view / save as you would with any other file. The download will not expire.
  4. If the book is not DRM-free, you must have Adobe Digital Editions on your device in order to download and view content. If you do not have it installed, click the "Adobe Digital Editions" link to open the Adobe download page in a new tab and follow the prompts to install. Mobile users can find an Adobe Digital Editions App in the Google Play store (Android) or the App Store (iOS). Note: Kindle Fire is also capable of accessing ebooks through EBSCO, through the use of the Bluefire Reader app: other Kindle devices are not supported.
  5. Select 'Full Download'. You will find this .acsm file in your Downloads folder, if you would like to move it to another location.
  6. You may double-click the file or launch Adobe Digital Editions then open the file from there. You will need to authorize with an Adobe ID if you would like to access the ebook on multiple devices. Click "Create Adobe ID" within the authorization prompt if needed.
