Can I create clips in Kanopy for a presentation?

Users with a personal account in Kanopy can create playlists which allow them to edit clips from Kanopy films to play as a list.

Answer

You can create clips from a playlist in Kanopy:

You will need to sign in to a personal account first. Click the person icon in the top right corner of Kanopy:

If you haven’t created an account, you can do so now. Use your @utdallas.edu email to do so.  If you have already got an account, sign in.

Then you will need to create a playlist.

(This is not intuitive, as you need to have created a list before you select films to go on that list.) At the top left of the screen is a link to “My Lists”

Look for “custom playlists” and create a new playlist.

Then you can search for the film you want to clip.

Below the film is a link for playlists. Click that and then you can add it to one or more of your own playlists:

Then you go back to “My Lists” and “Custom Playlists”, where you should see the film listed as a clip.  Click on the three little dots below the film and choose “edit”

You can now set the start and end times for the clip and “save changes”

Then, back at My Lists, Custom Playlist, you can select the play list and create a share link.

There is a link that will take the viewer to your list in Kanopy to view or an embed link that you could use to put it into a Powerpoint or class page.
