How to research Environmental Social and Governance (ESG)?

Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) measures the sustainable and societal impact of a corporation. It is not the same as corporate social responsibility or CSR.

The following Databases are recommended for researching company ESG:
- On the library’s website, click the Databases tab then the letter E. Scroll down to click on EDGAR in the list.
- In EDGAR, begin typing the name of the company or the corporation’s ticker symbol.
In this example we will use BlackRock Inc. or the company’s ticker of BLK.
Click on the company’s name. - In the next screen refine the search by adding esg in the keyword search.
Change the year/date range.
Click search to see the results.
- In the result list the Filed dates show most recent first.
- Each word might also appear spelled out instead of abbreviated.
- On the library’s website, click the Databases tab then the letter B. Scroll down to click on Business Source Complete in the list.
- In the first box, type the name of the company. Use the dropdown to select Company Entity – CO.
In the second box, begin typing the search phrase or keyword, esg.
Click on esg or environmental, social and governance or sustainability.
- Refine the number of results and the currency using the dropdown tools above the results list.
Use “Access options” to navigate to the full text.
