How do I find Peer-Reviewed Articles?

Answer

Begin your search for peer-reviewed articles by visiting the McDermott Library's website.

Once there, click on the "Articles & More" tile shown below.

On the next page you will begin your search for peer-reviewed articles by entering keywords into the field shown below.

For this example, the search is for articles on organic chemistry. Make certain to place your keywords inside quotation marks if they express only one idea, such as "organic chemistry".

Once you have performed your search, you will see more than 800,000 results are listed.

The number of results produced by this search is much too large to begin a research project. In addition, the results include materials outside the scope of peer-reviewed articles, such as books, conference proceedings, and videos.

You will need to limit these results using the refining tools listed on the left-hand side of the page. One of the refining tools is "Peer-reviewed Journals".

As seen below, limiting the search for "organic chemistry" to only peer-reviewed journals has produced just over 600,000.

Regardless of the number, the search for peer-reviewed articles is complete!

Even so, you may want to reduce the search results further by applying additional filters, depending on your needs.

An option may include filtering by "Articles," which is listed under "Resource Type". Limiting by "Creation Date" will reduce the number of results, also. Typically, professors want only the most current scholarship in a student's research. So, it may be best to refine search results to the last 10 years.

If you would like personalized help in finding peer-reviewed articles or have questions about any part of the research process, you may request an appointment by scheduling a one-on-one meeting with a librarian.
