When can I renew my books for next semester?
Answer
This answer applies specifically to Graduate Students and Faculty who get end-of-semester check out on most items.
Semester check outs have a fixed due date so they can only be renewed when the next semester end date has been activated by library staff, usually 5-7 days before the current semester due date.
The process and timing for renewing Library materials near the end of a semester can vary depending on your academic status as well as the status for each borrowed item.
Active faculty (adjunct included) and students at both Master's and PhD levels who are registered for the upcoming semester AND have not exceed the 5-renewal limit will be automatically renewed about 5 to 7 days before the current semester ends.
University staff and undergraduate students who are registered for the upcoming semester must renew materials manually.
An email notification is automatically generated in ether of the above scenarios to confirm a change of due date.
Common reasons for a blocked renewal:
- You are not registered for the upcoming semester.
- You have an overdue fine balance in excess of $1.00.
- The borrowed item has been "recalled" (another person is in queue to borrow the item).
- The borrowed item has reached its renewal limit (5 times).
McDermott Library recommends that you check your Library account within 5 days of semester's end to be sure there are no unresolved check outs. Learn how to log in to your account and renew an item here.
